ouch, it’s getting cold in here

On my recent poker playing trip to Las Vegas, I managed to get my money in with the best of it 8 times, only winning one hand (KK vs TT).  I did suggest that someone was WAY ahead when he had a flush draw vs my nut straight with one card to come.
I could list [...]

Oceanside Open

Oceans 11 held the Oceanside Open on July 4th.  A nice field of players, good structure and free BBQ made the event fun to play in (the BBQ was real good and was quite a distraction after they started the grilling process).  Of course it always helps when you make the final table of an [...]

getting it all in with the best of it…

…in the end, it really is all you can do in poker.
After shoving as a 91% favorite with one to come and exiting the tournament when a 2 outer shows up, all you can do is shake your head and look for a new game.
That’s 3 exits in a row where I got all my [...]

how to win the local friends/office poker game

Go to Vegas, play a $1500 or $2000 No Limit World Series of Poker event
come home and don’t worry about playing a solid game at the WSOP
play your normal $10 No Limit game with family/friends/coworkers

From a financial perspective, it makes no sense.  I took down the local game for a whopping profit of $40 after [...]

Binions – still with me

I hit Las Vegas last weekend to play some No Limit poker tournaments.  One of the stops was Binions downtown.  I tossed the keys to the Valet and played a $105 No Limit tournament to 5th place.  I left Binions to go play some more tournaments, then drove the 300+ miles home.
I found the valet [...]

how to lose a customer in 180 days

i just got the email below from a poker establishment.  I’ll log in and transfer any money i might have, but i’ll never play a hand there again:
morons.  seems to me like it’s a perfect “terms and conditions” for a crack addict.

winning races

in poker there are many situations that come down to races.  any pair to two overcards.  ie:  AQ vs JJ, 89 vs 22, etc. the pair is a slight favorite…but not by much.  in the real world, it’s a coin flip.
In the long run,  one should go 50/50 with the races.  I’ve lost about [...]

Vegas tournaments

I just got back from playing 3 tournaments in Vegas.
In the $540 O8HL Championship at The Orleans Open, I just did not catch enough cards to keep ahead of the blinds.  It was a nice tournament, although the dealers where less than perfect.  The hour long blinds, excellent starting chips and good structure made for [...]

Poker Aces (aka Viejas tournament)

I made the 30 minute trip out to Viejas  to play their Poker Aces Tournament.  $300 buy-in, no rebuys, 100k guaranteed.  With 40 minute rounds, 5k in chips and starting levels of 25/50, it’s not a bad structure.
I forgot to bring my iPod, which generally correlates to an out of the money finish.  (I don’t [...]

A nice live NoLimit score

I played the $80 (with 1 $50 rebuy) tournament at Ceasers yesterday. After 7 hours of play and getting down to 4 players, we made a deal that paid me an extra $600 to end the tournament and grab some grub.
I really wanted to play it out, as I have been playing a short table [...]
